Monday Made It (with a little summer update)

So as you may remember, my last blog post had a pretty big announcement about me moving to a new school in August. I can't believe that I had over 500 people read that post. I didn't even think I knew 500 people? I even had about 20 people in Malaysia read it. (Hi to all of my followers in different countries!!)

I am absolutely thrilled to be joining my new school in just a few short weeks. I've already gotten to meet all of my teammates- they are great! We've completed our long range plans, had a pool party, and some of us went to a monogram party together. I have a feeling this is my kind of school :) Everyday I'm thankful for this new opportunity. I'm telling you, everything really does happen for a reason. I had some reading camp plans fall through in the last minute, and that's how I was able to go on the interview. Life is good :)

In personal news, this summer has been a crazy one! On Saturday, July 2, Mikel and I were getting ready to head to Columbia for a birthday party when we received a phone call saying that my mom was on her way to the Emergency Room. I can't tell you how scared I was to hear that. She was having shortness of breath and her chest felt tight. It was a scary three days in the hospital, but she was released earlier than planned due to her heart fixing itself without a procedure (thank goodness!). We had a follow up appointment with her cardiologist on Friday and she is cleared to go back to work. She's on the road to being 100% better and I'm so happy. Keep her in your thoughts as she eases back into her normal routine.

I also got a new car this summer! I had been without air conditioning in my old car since last year and I couldn't take another moment of it. I love it and I feel like I look like a celebrity in it because it's black and I'm like incognito and stuff.

We spent this past weekend celebrating Mr. R's birthday with the family, and my mom's birthday too. Tomorrow is Mr. R's actual birthday and we haven't quite decided what we're going to get into yet.

So for today's Monday Made It, I wanted to show you a few things I've made for my new classroom over the last few days.

Hall Pass hanger (for bathroom, nurse, and office passes). I took a 5"x 12" piece of thin wood (Hobby Lobby) and painted it turqousie. I added three drawer knobs (Hobby Lobby) for the passes to hang from. Then I used my Silhouette to cut out the words (I should have used it for the polka dots too, but I had already painted them) and attached ribbon on the back for hanging. Easy!

Target dollar rack is my jam. Especially when they have teacher stuff! I found this pencil and used my Silhouette to add my name. It's going to look perfect on my new desk!

I've had the same clipboard since probably 1982. It was cute, but dented and just not my style now. I found this in the Target dollar rack and grabbed it up. Once again, I used my Silhouette to add my monogram. The front is still plain because it will be covered with papers.

I've had these for a while, but they were black and they just didn't look good in my classroom (originally from Office Depot). I bought Seaside Spray Paint (Home Depot) and painted them. Then I covered them with a clear spray paint (Hobby Lobby). They are so pretty now and I can't wait to move them into my classroom (once I'm able to get in.) **Dog is not included when you purchase these at OD**

I can't believe how quickly the summer is passing by! I hope everyone has a great week. Hope to update soon with some classroom pictures.
